Marked!: Joseph Habersham was one of the most important early leaders in Georgia history. An influential part of Georgia's American Revolution story, a mayor of Savannah, and the second Postmaster General of the United States, Habersham helped shape both Georgia and the early United States. In this episode of Marked!, host Maiya May visits historical marker # 068-7 in Clarkesville to explore the summer home of Joseph Habersham and uncover the story of a forgotten founder. Educated at Princeton University, Habersham returned to Georgia to organize the Liberty Boys, helped capture Royal Governor Sir James Wright in 1776, served as Speaker of Georgia’s early legislature, signed the first charter of University of Georgia, and later served under Presidents George Washington and John Adams.
